Forever Not Alone Forever Not Alone

Monja Art / Austria / 2013 / 74 min

An independent film about a group of teenage girls whose bonds of friendship are put to the test when they reach adolescence in their last summer together.

Alice, Helene, Maira, Nani, Selin and Vera live in Vienna, are 14 and best friends and call themselves the “Chillergroup”. This friendship is the most important thing in their lives. Slowly a new world rises where boys play a major role. Soon relationships with boys become an experimental ground, parties last till the early morning, and a deep sense of loneliness sometimes hides behind a facade of cool. As the end of their schooldays is looming closer, the girls have to face the question of what friendship is and how much it can withstand. What remains is their last summer together on the cusp of the journey through adolescence.

“Most of the documentaries about teens focus on young people aged 16 to 18. But we wanted to give attention to that important break happening at the age of 13 and 14. /.../ Hence Forever Not Alone is no doc about immigration, domestic violence or drug addiction among young people. It’s a doc about the everyday life of six 13/14-year-old Viennese girls who attend secondary school and who have to deal with all the small and big dramas, mixed emotions, new experiences as well as dreams, hopes and desires of the youth.” (Caroline Bobek)

Blending elements of Wuthering Heights, Croatian folklore, and Jane Campion’s The Piano, the film earned its two leading actresses an award at Locarno.

Third World is more than just a documentary about Haustor, the legendary Zagreb band that left its mark on the former Yugoslavia’s music scene. It is the story of two creative opposites: Darko Rundek and Srđan Sacher. Through candid conversations, a studio reunion, and a wealth of archival material, the film reveals how the two artists’ sensitivity to the magic of everyday life once united their creative worlds – creating a third.
