Film Under the Stars
On midsummer nights, film stars come to life in the courtyard of Ljubljana Castle. A programme of five premieres and this season’s best films has been put together by Kinodvor, in collaboration with the City of Ljubljana and Ljubljana Castle.
Films are screened in their original language with English subtitles. English-spoken films are screened with Slovenian subtitles only.
If a film screening is cancelled due to rain or a bad weather forecast, information about the cancellation will be published on the websites www.ljubljanskigrad.si and www.kinodvor.org by 7 pm on the day of the scheduled screening. A replacement screening will take place the following day at 9 pm at Kinodvor. If an Avant Premiere or Premiere is cancelled, there will be two replacement screenings the following day at Kinodvor.

If a film screening is cancelled due to rain or a bad weather forecast, information about the cancellation will be published on the websites www.ljubljanskigrad.si and www.kinodvor.org by 7 pm on the day of the scheduled screening.
A replacement screening will take place the following day at 9 pm at Kinodvor. If an Avant Premiere or Premiere is cancelled, there will be two replacement screenings the following day at Kinodvor.
Tickets for a cancelled screening can be exchanged for:
- tickets for the replacement screening at Kinodvor: available at the Kinodvor box office until the seating capacities are filled (the number of seats at Kinodvor is considerably lower than in the castle courtyard);
- tickets for another screening at Film under the Stars (except for the Premiere or Avant Premieres): to be exchanged at the box office of the entrance pavilion at the Ljubljana Castle and the lower funicular station. Tickets for a cancelled Premiere or Avant Premiere can only be exchanged for tickets for another Premiere or Avant Premiere;
- cash refund to be collected at the point of purchase by September 6th 2026. After this date, tickets cannot be refunded.
Cancellations will be announced at www.ljubljanskigrad.si and www.kinodvor.org by 19:00 on the day of the scheduled screening.
With the slogan Let’s Go a Ride Under the Stars, we invite guests to use one of the sustainable ways of getting to the castle, namely:
- a ride on the funicular railway
- travelling on a shuttle
Sports enthusiasts can also test their mettle by cycling to the castle, while those who like evening walks can take a stroll on one of the footpaths leading to the castle.
We recommend taking the footpath, the funicular railway, or the shuttle. When purchasing a film ticket, we recommend buying a discounted funicular or shuttle service ticket at € 4.50. Depending on the occupancy of the funicular or shuttle service, you can decide on the spot which option you prefer to take. Alternatively, you can purchase a one-way ticket at € 2.30.
For the trip to the Ljubljana Castle, the shuttle stop is at Krekov Trg, near the lower funicular station. For the return trip from the castle, the stop is at the Ljubljana Castle; car park. The shuttle service to the castle runs from 8 pm to 9:15 pm, every 10 minutes and from the castle: up until 30 minutes after the end of the event. The funicular runs continuously until 30 minutes after the end of the screening.
Please note: no parking is allowed along Cesta slovenskih kmečkih uporov leading up to the castle.
We kindly ask you to plan accordingly to ensure you arrive on time for the screening.

Tickets cannot be booked in advance. Seating is unassigned.
People with mobility impairments and people with special needs, as well as their companion, are entitled to a 50% discount. Discounted tickets can only be purchased at the Ljubljana Castle ticket offices upon presentation of relevant proof.
