Nina Peče Grilc: “I am leaving after ten years of Kinodvor’s development and growth. I look at the institution’s results with pride and satisfaction of having built, in cooperation with numerous partners, a film and cultural centre for all audiences. Today, Kinodvor is much more than a city cinema. It is a space of culture and socialising of such quality that we can no longer imagine Ljubljana without it. Knowing her expertise and rich work experience, I am convinced that Metka Dariš is the right person to lead Kinodvor into the next phase of development, assisted by her Head of Program Koen Van Daele and Kinodvor’s excellent team.”
Metka Dariš has served as head of the Museum Department of the Slovenian Cinematheque for over seven years. Prior to that she was a part of the core team that – under Silvan Furlan’s management – conceived and launched the Cinematheque, undertook Kinodvor’s renovation and conversion into an art house cinema; established the Kino Otok – Isola Cinema film festival and the Art Cinema Network. In addition to continuing to fulfil Kinodvor’s mission, the biggest challenge for the new director will be the realisation of the joint plan of Kinodvor and the Ljubljana municipality to construct a new miniplex in the Ljubljana city centre, scheduled to open in 2022.
Upon her appointment, Metka Dariš stated: “I am assuming care and responsibility over a public institution that, in the ten years of realising its visions, fulfilling its mission and consistently following its values, has won over the broadest general and professional public. At the same time Kinodvor essentially marked the city, national and international cultural environment, thereby more than fulfilling the expectations of its founder. Kinodvor is on the threshold of a new period in which it will not only maintain everything it achieved, but, in cooperation with its founder, tackle an important new task: the establishment of a city miniplex. The opportunity for Kinodvor to spread, enrich and develop its activities in a miniplex is the direct result of the past work, efforts, ambitions and success of Kinodvor’s excellent team led by Nina Peče Grilc and the strategic support of the founder – which I can only thank for making Kinodvor indispensable.”
