IMDb

Lia, a retired teacher, has made a promise to find out what happened to her long-lost niece, Tekla. When Lia learns from a neighbour, Achi, that Tekla might have left their Georgian homeland and be living in Turkey, Lia and Achi set off together to find her. Arriving in Istanbul, they discover a beautiful city full of connections and possibilities. But searching for someone who never intended to be found is harder than they expected – until they meet Evrim, a lawyer fighting for trans rights. As Lia and Achi weave their way through the city’s backstreets, Tekla starts to feel closer than ever.

“I never had the intention of telling Tekla's story from her point of view. For me, I was always interested in the sort of relationship aspect and the atonement aspect of the story. But then when I was in Istanbul doing my research, I met several women, and they were all very inspiring in their resilience and in their sort of optimism despite everything. That's why I included the character of Evrim in the film.” (Levan Akin)

Is a “good” breakup possible? Spanish director Jonás Trueba’s film is a playful and witty nod to the classic remarriage comedies of the 1930s and 1940s, showing that separation can hold just as much love and hope as a reunion.
