German cinematographer Eugen Schüfftan, known for Metropolis, won an Oscar for his work on The Hustler. Newman had to wait a quarter-century for his Oscar for playing Fast Eddie, awarded for his role in The Colour of Money, the sequel directed by Martin Scorsese.
