Alija, a miner, is sent to dig out a mine that had been walled up at the end of the Second World War. His primary task is to write a report at the earliest opportunity to state that the mine is empty. He soon finds evidence to the contrary, and despite the risks continues to dig, discovering a grim secret within: a mass grave.  After brief publicity of the disturbing finding, the news is suddenly silenced from public conversation. Alija persists, insisting that the bodies be identified and formally buried, but his actions present a disturbance the authorities must bury.
