The Delinquents Los delincuentes

Rodrigo Moreno / Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Luxembourg / 2023 / 180 min / Spanish

Morán and Román are two bank employees that at some point in their lives question the routine life they lead. Over dinner with Román, Morán tells him that he stole $650,000, which is exactly double what he would have made until his retirement. He plans to turn himself in, but not before offering Román to split the money if he agrees to hide it for the duration of his incarceration. And just like that, their dreams of a better life take an unexpected and thrilling turn.

"The idea has something to do with an old 1949 film, Hugo Fregonese’s Apenas un delincuente. I picked the initial premise of the movie as a starting point but with the idea of going beyond – a type of “beyond” I’m much more interested in, which deals with idea of dismantling genres. If you would have read the script, you would say it looked like a comedy. I wanted to make a comedy and “dismantle” it, but I also wanted to make a thriller boasting a bank robbery and “dismantle” again… and then reach a more existential realm." (Rodrigo Moreno)

On 12 September 1919, a troop of some three hundred soldiers under the leadership of the flamboyant war-loving Italian poet Gabriele D’Annunzio swooped into the Northern-Adriatic port town of Fiume, now Rijeka, wanting to annex the city to Italy. Over the course of the next 16 months, during what is regarded as one of the most bizarre militant sieges of all time his official photography team captured over 10,000 images. A century later, Igor Bezinović orchestrates a direct-action history lesson focused on the siege and its modern-day implications.
