World in Short: Section 1 Svet na kratko, 1. sklop

various / 2012 / 99 min

We'll Become Oil
Dry landscape is filled with the traces of a meta-conflict, beyond any visible political or ideological issue. A continuous and inexplicable state of crisis takes over the space, transforming pure mineral geography into a theatre of war.

Soul Catcher
A film about a man who has lost his soul.

About Killing the Pig
In early January a man enters the stall where a pig is kept and ties it by its snout. While being dragged outside to be butchered, the pig is able to look at the sky and the surrounding world.

The Centrifuge Brain Project
Since the 1970s, scientists have been conducting experiments with bizarre amusement rides to study the effects on the human brain. A tongue-in-cheek look at mankind’s confused search for happiness and freedom.

Rafa
Rafa is thirteen and lives with his mother, sister and his little nephew in a tiny flat in one of the suburbs just south of Lisbon. One morning, his mother isn't there. She didn't return after spending the night with a man. Worried, Rafa sets off to find her.

The Strife of Love in a Dream
The piece is inspired both by Karl Jung’s idea of India as a “dreamlike world” and by Sudhir Kadar’s analysis of India as “the unconscious of the West”. The film is composed in a braided structure, interweaving a pilgrimage, the production of anti-anxiety medication and the extraction of snake venom, all of which are linked to human strategies of defence against fear.

God View
From an unusual perspective, we follow Philip around his neighbourhood in Hackney, East London. He is mentally unwell and misses his wife and daughter very much.

Early Rising France
A story about an expelled person and the judicial system which forces illegal immigrants to leave the country. Based on real events occurring in Paris in 2006. Souleymane Bagayogo, taxpayer without papers, was arrested at his workplace, and exiled to Mali. A little bit earlier, he had submitted a complaint to labour relations board about his employer disrespecting his rights.

Fiume o morte! Fiume o morte!

Igor Bezinović

Wednesday, 17. 09. 2025 / 20:00 / Main Hall

On 12 September 1919, a troop of some three hundred soldiers under the leadership of the flamboyant war-loving Italian poet Gabriele D’Annunzio swooped into the Northern-Adriatic port town of Fiume, now Rijeka, wanting to annex the city to Italy. Over the course of the next 16 months, during what is regarded as one of the most bizarre militant sieges of all time his official photography team captured over 10,000 images. A century later, Igor Bezinović orchestrates a direct-action history lesson focused on the siege and its modern-day implications.
