The Other Way Around Volveréis

Jonás Trueba / Spain, France / 2024 / 114 min / Spanish

Chaos ensues when a long-time couple cheerily announce their breakup. A party will mark the occasion and end the relationship – in this fun, chatty and eccentric anti-romantic comedy set in the director's native Madrid.

cast Itsaso Arana (Ale), Vito Sanz (Alex)

IMDb

Director Ale and actor Alex decide to call it a day after twenty years together. As it is by mutual agreement and they get along well, both decide to celebrate their breakup by throwing a party to which they invite their family and friends, as well as the landlord, the plumber and even an English teacher. But when they tell them their decision, no one believes them. It turns out, however, that endings tend to generate new appreciations.

“Everyone has gone through a breakup, and many shared their experiences with me. The scene when they are going through their books, dividing them, feels very real, but I didn’t have to interview random people on the street to find these small details. We’ve all been through it. /…/ It’s sad, but they are trying to go through this experience with a smile on their face. Maybe organizing this party is their way of doing something together? For the first time in a long time and also for the last.” (Jonás Trueba)
