Priscilla Priscilla

Sofia Coppola / USA, Italy / 2023 / 110 min / English

With a gentle and sensitive story of a young girl's longing, growing up in a fairy tale, and finding her own life path, Sofia Coppola (Marie Antoinette, Lost in Translation) reveals the other side of the American myth of the King of Rock'n'Roll. The film, based on Priscilla Presley’s book Elvis and Me, brought Cailee Spaeny the Best Actress award in Venice.

cast Cailee Spaeny, Jacob Elordi, Dagmara Dominczyk, Ari Cohen, Tim Post, Lynne Griffin

1959. Priscilla Beaulieu is 14 and lives with her family in Wiesbaden, Germany. When Priscilla meets Elvis Presley at a party, she finds that the man who is already a meteoric rock-and-roll superstar becomes someone entirely unexpected in private moments: a thrilling crush, an ally in loneliness, a vulnerable best friend. Two kindred spirits find each other. Elvis manages to convince Priscilla's parents to allow her to live with him at Graceland, his mansion – even though he is a decade her senior.

“I was moved by Priscilla Presley’s memoir of her experience as a young woman at Graceland and have tried to capture what it felt like for her going into Elvis’ world and finally emerging to find her own life. It’s important to me as an artist to show the world through my character’s eyes without judgement. I’ve always been interested in ideas of identity, agency, and transformation. This movie examines how Priscilla becomes who she is and what womanhood means to her and the generation after her.” (Sofia Coppola)
