The Summer of ’91 Poletje ’91

Žiga Virc / Slovenia / 2021 / 72 min / Slovene

An archival documentary by Žiga Virc (Houston, We Have a Problem!) that gives a fresh and unbiased insight into the everyday life of people in Slovenia at the crossroads of history. The product of an extensive campaign in which people were invited to send in their home videos, the film acts as an audio-visual time machine that takes viewers to the chaotic period before, during and after Slovenia’s independence.

A film about the dark side of modern Europe, but also about genuine union work and solidarity, which, despite everything, is still possible. Winner of the Audience Award and the Golden Arena for Best Director in Pula.
