Straddling several genres – romantic comedy, western, road movie and police thriller –, this offbeat comedy follows a runaway Argentine policeman adrift in Uruguay.

festivals, awards Venice Spotlight 2025

Fleeing from fellow officers, Santiago — an Argentinian policeman — crosses into Uruguay seeking refuge. With no money or shelter, but with plenty of kindness and wit, he begins to rebuild his life with help from the locals, even meeting the woman he believes could be the love of his life. But when his colleagues from back home catch up with him, Santiago is forced to reconcile his new life with the one he tried to leave behind.

A Loose End tells the story of a character who crosses the Uruguayan-Argentine border hoping to erase the traces of his past life. It is a film about the search for a new destiny, the illusion of being another person and, at the same time, the difficulty of realising that utopia of dissolving the territory.” (Daniel Hendler)
