My Extraordinary Summer with Tess Mijn bijzonder rare week met Tess

Steven Wouterlood / Netherlands, Germany / 2019 / 82 min / Slovene subtitles, Dutch / 9+

A heart-warming tale about coming of age and friendship based on the eponymous novel by Anna Woltz. After its Berlinale premiere My Extraordinary Summer with Tess became this year’s festival favourite.

Afraid of being left alone as the youngest of the family, Sam begins his own made up aloneness training during his holiday on the Dutch island of Terschelling. But by meeting the elusive Tess, who keeps a big secret, he is drawn into an adventure that makes him realize that he should cherish his family instead of fleeing. Sam makes a drastic decision that puts his special friendship with Tess at risk and will change Tess' life forever.

A barber wounded during the First World War returns home after 20 years within hospital walls. His shop has grown full of cobwebs and dust, but it is the hateful graffiti on his shop window that takes him totally by surprise. Hynkel, the tyrannical dictator, and his henchmen persecute the barber, as well as the rest of the Jewish community, including the beautiful Hannah… A visionary satire that marked history, just as history itself left its mark on the film.
