Camille Rewinds Camille redouble

Noémie Lvovsky / France / 2012 / 111 min / French

A wonderful meditation on loss of and search for a certain quality that defines an individual irrespective of his life experiences. A melancholy yet unsentimental flashback, a return to the teenage years spent in the 1980s.

Camille is 16 when she meets Eric. They love each other passionately and, very young, they have a daughter together. Twenty-five years later: Eric has just left Camille for a younger woman. Camille is crushed when, on the evening of December 31, she is suddenly transported back to her past. She is 16 again. She rediscovers her parents, her friends, her adolescence… and Eric, who is enamoured of her again. Will she shun him and try to change both their lives? Will she love him again even though she knows how their love affair ends?

»While writing, while shooting, while playing Camille, I kept returning to the questions that I have been asking myself since childhood: do we change into someone else in the course of time or is there a part of us that is indelible? Does this indelible part exist in friendship, in love?«
