
Migrant Film Festival
From September 22 to 26
Migrant Film Festival, organized by Slovenska filantropija for the sixteenth consecutive year, will once again bring screenings and accompanying events to Ljubljana and several other locations, highlighting various topics and aspects of contemporary migration, asylum, and refugee life. This year, we will touch on current stories related to identity and the feeling of (not) belonging, women in migration, the exploitation of migrant workers, forced returns, and genocide in Palestine.

When her mother dies in the forest along the Polish-Belarusian border, sixteen-year-old Kurdish girl Runa must care for her four younger brothers and her depressed father. While the family navigates an uncertain future and the looming threat of deportation in a refugee centre, Runa finds refuge in the world of art… This partially animated documentary tells the story of coming of age in the shadow of the global refugee crisis.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Moldovan women left in droves for work in Western Europe, leaving their children to be cared for by their relatives. They sent money and other goods home, and in return, their children sent videotaped messages. These intimate recordings testify to the painful void left in the lives of children by mothers forced to leave their homeland to provide a better life for their families.
