The event was opened with Ninotchka<\/a>, directed by legendary director of classic Hollywood film, Ernst Lubitsch. The film, whose witty fusion of political satire and romantic comedy and gave Greta Garbo her first comic role, along with \u2018the Lubitsch Touch\u2019, celebrated its 80th anniversary.<\/p>\n

As an introduction to the Slovenian Cinemateque\u2019s autumn retrospective on Jean Renoir<\/strong>, we presented El\u00e9na et les hommes<\/a> in which Ingrid Bergman finds herself in a whirlwind of love and political intrigue in the director\u2019s dizzying and colourful romantic comedy.<\/p>\n

For the 60th birthday<\/strong> of \u2018the funniest film of all time\u2019<\/em>, Billy Wilder\u2019s masterpiece Some Like it Hot<\/a>, we gasped at the breathtaking performances of Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon and the timeless Marilyn Monroe, all at the top of their game.<\/p>\n

Our program concluded with anarchic satire on institutional religion and playful parody on Hollywood\u2019s Biblical spectacles, Life of Brian<\/a>, directed by and starring legendary British comedy troupe, Monty Python, celebrating the film’s 40th birthday.<\/p>\n
